Request for Volunteer Massage Therapists for Kidney March

September 9th and 10th, 2011

From September 9-11th, the Kidney Foundation of Canada will be hosting the 2nd Annual Kidney March; a fundraiser where marchers walk 100 km over 3 days from Kananaskis to Calgary in support of research and support programs for those suffering from kidney disease.

In Canada, an estimated 2.5 million Canadians have been diagnosed with kidney disease or are currently at risk. Kidney March has been developed to give our community a chance to make a difference in the fight against kidney disease. During Kidney March, our marchers and volunteers will need special support. There will be approximately 250-300 people (walkers, crew and volunteers) in camp and on the route throughout the day. We expect many walking related issues including foot, leg and back pain.

We need you! We are looking for volunteer RMTs to be present at our base camp, which is located at Camp Gardner - about a 40 minute drive from Calgary (20km west of Bragg Creek).

Shifts range from 2pm – 9pm, September 9th and/or 10th and we ask that volunteers be present for a minimum of 3 hours. A special massage therapy/chiropractic cover tent will be set up at the camp site, but volunteers are being asked to provide their own massage tables and/or chairs. Volunteers will have the opportunity to bring signage and cards to promote their services or the company that they are representing if desired. In addition, free, hot meals will be provided for all volunteer RMTs and massage therapists!
