ElaineElaine Sutton
Communications Manager

Elaine joined the NHPC in February 2014. She brings over 30 years of experience in executive level communications, mergers/acquisitions, marketing, advertising, brand, and electronic communications.  She considers herself fortunate to have been involved in major initiatives through positions in corporate, government, various utilities, benefits, and health and wellness. She has owned and operated her own communications consulting business, providing strategic planning, and executive coaching services.

Elaine is an accredited member of the Canadian Public Relations Society. Over the years, she participated as a CPRS Board member, accreditation judge and awards judge for both CPRS and IABC. She  and her teams were awarded two CPRS National Awards of Excellence and a number of other CPRS and IABC local and international awards. As well, she is a certified trainer of trainers in change management and has had the opportunity to train in many specific communications disciplines in Canada and the US.

She is particularly pleased to have joined the NHPC to expand her interest in all aspects of health. She practices meditation and has attempted the twists and turns of yoga. This position will provide her with the opportunity to learn more about natural health and apply it to her very busy life.

Elaine comes from rural Alberta, having been thrust into big city life in her teens. A true Albertan, Elaine wouldn't choose to live anywhere else in the world. She is a life-long learner, having taken training in culinary arts, interior decoration and landscape design — just for fun. She plans her gardening adventures throughout each winter and can be found wandering greenhouses or her back garden in the summer.

Sandra Sandra Thornton
Strategic Communications Consultant

Sandra has been with the NHPC since January 2013. She has a Bachelor in Applied Arts from Athabasca University and is accredited in public relations with the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), certified in Crisis Communications from the Institute for Crisis Management, Fellow of the College of the CPRS. Sandra has over 30 years experience in communications, public relations, and marketing and teaches these skills to MacEwan University and University of Victoria public relations students.

The NHPC aligns with her personal conviction of natural health, with yoga and massage therapy among her favourite modalities.

As a child on a typical weekend in the summer, Sandra went sailing on the St. Laurence River and climbed trees. Her favorite subject in school was art and it’s no surprise her favorite show is Mad Men. Three things always in her fridge are organic free-range eggs, salad makings, and white wine! She recently fulfilled a 30-year dream of getting her own pottery studio.

Bio Image Placeholder Noelle Goff-Kurlander
Digital Communications Advisor

Noelle has been working with the NHPC since 2006, when she first started in the Membership department. She soon moved into a Quality Assurance position, where she continued to work closely with the Membership department and started using her technical skills to help the Communications department. She officially became part of the Communications team in early 2013.

As Digital Communications Advisor, Noelle is responsible for website development and updates, database and email system management, quality assurance for web and print materials, and statistics and reporting.

Being an avid computer user from a young age, Noelle incorporated her interest in computers into her academic studies in Archaeology and History. She continues to find ways to use them in her work at the NHPC to streamline processes and improve the user experience.

Noelle believes that natural health practitioners are essential to the national health care system. Their inclusion makes a more robust system that is better-equipped to provide flexible and effective health care.

Dorothy Dorothy Reikie
Public Engagement Coordinator

Dorothy joined the NHPC in March 2013 on a temporary basis, but loved it so much she decided to stay. She works in the Communications department, doing little bits of everything, which has included communications planning, developing social media and website content, writing articles for Connections magazine, and photographing NHPC events. More and more her time will be spent letting everybody know what an incredible organization the NHPC is through brand development and public engagement activities.

She has a degree in Political Science and French from Simon Fraser University and is a few courses away from completing her Public Relations Diploma from the University of Victoria. She thrives on challenging herself through education, photography, and travel, which has taken her to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, and India. Last year she completed her yoga teacher training to better understand why the heck she loves it so much. She believes in a holistic approach to health and her favorite NHPC modalities include reiki and yoga.

Some of her favorite childhood memories include making terrifically messy sandcastles along the ocean and cutting her cat’s whiskers off by accident. Three things always in her fridge are green onion, seaweed, and rice milk.
