On September 18, 2015 the Health Professions Advisory Council (HPAC), the independent body reviewing the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba (MTAM) application for regulation, submitted its report to the Manitoba Minister of Health.

The Minister has accepted the recommendation that the profession of massage therapy be granted self-regulation under The Regulated Health Professions Act (the RHPA).

The NHPC and MTAM have already been engaging in the collaboration necessary to ensure the development of a regulatory college would be organized, timely, and done to the utmost benefit of RMTs in Manitoba.

NHPC Executive Director, Kelly Sloan, speaks to Massage Therapy Canada about regulation proceeding in Manitoba.

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, the NHPC Board of Directors approved the modality of STAMINA®. STAMINA® will now be recognized by the NHPC as a specialization modality within the domain of soft-tissue massage.

To have a new holistic practice recognized, the applicant engages in a process that is very comprehensive and detailed. Over the course of many months, the NHPC has reviewed information and, based on our assessments, we're very pleased to accept this modality to the NHPC.

STAMINA® training provides the knowledge and skills to align key stabilizing muscles in a particular direction which results in improved muscle strength/stability and function. Other treatment benefits of STAMINA® include decreased symptoms, myofascial hypertonus, and trigger points with techniques that require less strain on the practitioner.

Throughout 2015, the NHPC attended tradeshows across Canada and the number one question we received from the public was “how can I find an NHPC practitioner in my community?”

A great tool for both practitioners and the public is the Natural Health Directory. The Natural Health Directory allows the public to find a practitioner in their area by practice, city, and province — just to name a few!

By filling out their information in the Natural Health Directory, members create an easy means for the public to access their expertise.

The Natural Health Directory allows members to share:

  • their photo
  • their biography
  • their business address
  • specializations they choose to highlight
  • client testimonials
NHPC members, sign-up for the Natural Health Directory today. You'll be able to manage your listing like a mini-website and give the public access to your services. To setup your listing, login to your account, click "Directory Subscription" on the left-hand menu, and populate your listing to your liking.
