NHPCA Privacy Policy

The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada Association (NHPCA) takes your privacy and security seriously.

The NHPCA is committed to protecting your personal information and is following the privacy legislation requirements (Federally and/or Provincially) regarding the use, collection, and disclosure of personal information that came into effect January 1, 2004.


What is personal information?

The term "personal information" refers to information that specifically identifies you as an individual, which could include: age, name, address, gender, weight, and height, ID numbers, place of birth, ethnic origin, employment or financial history, opinions, evaluations, comments about an individual.

Personal information does not include the name, title, business address, or telephone number of an employee of an organization.


Why do we collect personal information?

The NHPCA collects personal information through three main avenues:

  1. During membership registration and renewal;
  2. Through various NHPCA forms, i.e. conference registration forms, order forms, insurance forms, committee forms; and
  3. When you access the website, your computer leaves a data trail.


What do we do with this personal information?

The NHPCA uses your personal information to better understand your needs and to provide you with better service. Specifically, we use your information to complete a transaction, to communicate with you, to provide you with service and benefits, to support advocacy, and to improve or add to services and benefits.

When information is provided to parties other than NHPCA, it is in aggregate form so that individual personal information is not identifiable. Credit card numbers are used only for payment processing and are not retained by the NHPCA. Occasionally, the NHPCA may use your information to contact you for quality assurance or satisfaction information. The NHPCA will not sell, trade, rent, or lease your "personally identifiable information" to others, unless with your consent, or required by law or required by the NHPCA Bylaws or Code of Ethics will we share the personal identifiable information with other NHPC entities and/or business partners who are acting on our behalf, for the uses described above. Such entities and/or business partners are governed by our privacy policies with respect to the use of this data and are bound by appropriate confidentiality agreements.


How do we protect your personal information?

The NHPCA takes your privacy and security seriously. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information you provide to us.


How we obtain your consent?

The NHPCA is in the process of updating all of its forms to obtain your consent for the use, collection and disclose of your personal information. You will notice that your consent will be obtained during annual membership registration, as well as on specific NHPCA forms such as: committee forms, order forms, insurance forms.


How to access your personal information?

If you wish to access your personal information, call the Privacy Officer at the NHPCA office: 1-888-711-7701 and the office will help you with your request.


How to correct personal information?

If you notice that the personal information that NHPCA has collected requires correction, contact the NHPCA, put in writing the changes needed, forward to the NHPCA and the NHPCA will make the appropriate changes.
