Natural Health Practitioner Municipal Licence
Changes to the Enhanced Security Clearance

To operate a massage therapy business in many municipal jurisdictions in Canada, a business licence is required. Natural Health Practitioners are considered to be working with vulnerable populations. Because of this, most jurisdictions require an Enhanced Security Clearance (ESC) in order to obtain a Natural Health Practitioner business licence.

NHPC has been informed that the Government of Canada has recently made changes to the ESC process that may result in some massage therapists being required to provide fingerprints to the RCMP.

The Government of Canada has made these changes to the ESC in order to more fully capture the protection of vulnerable persons.

It is possible that the changes to the ESC will result in some massage therapists receiving a letter that requests them to attend police headquarters for the purpose of being fingerprinted.
