OSCE prep course
2 day prep course designed to improve your comfort with exam questions on the OSCE practical exam that is required in regulated provinces and soon to come to Alberta.
The course will run from 8am-5pm Saturday and Sunday June 2,3, 2018
Detailed course description:
In the OSCE prep course you will learn about what an OSCE is, how it is administered and the importance of it in a regulated province. Instructors will walk you through a full OSCE exam, while giving you tips and pointers for each station. You will learn each individual station and what is required, and practice mock exams with your fellow students under the guidance of your instructors. Students will learn the registration process for each province, and how to apply to the examination, as well as the rules surrounding the exam. Students will be given time to address concerns about the exam and qualification for entry to the exam, as well as refine skills. This is a great course for students just graduating school or for RMT's wishing to write the examination and become certified in a regulated province. Material is compiled from all 4 regulated provinces and students will receive a brief outline of each province and their individual requirements. The prep course is also designed to give insight into what it may be like for RMT students once regulation happens in Alberta. Material consist of a lecture component, reading material, online guide/videos, and hands on instruction. A short quiz will be given at the end, consisting of the student completing 1 station of the OSCE.
This course will qualify for 10 credits towards your continuing education requirements with the NHPC.
Instructor: Dustin Portelance:
I am a registered massage therapist with the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta. I have extensive training in MVA/Whiplash, hot and cold therapy, pregnancy, and core stabilization. I completed my OSCE/MCQ exams in Newfoundland in 2012 and became a RMT and part of the CMTNL and NLMTA for 1 year before moving to Alberta with my family. I completed an OSCE prep course (as part of my curriculum) in Newfoundland and desire to give back the knowledge I learned from that course, to help future RMT's thrive during the examination. Currently I am an instructor for South Edmonton School for Massage Therapy in level one where I teach Anatomy/Physiology and relaxation massage skills. Over my short time as an RMT, I have been able to see many diverse conditions and create effective treatment plans for my clients, and I firmly believe my solid education and the OSCE exam from Newfoundland allowed me to achieve my goal. I take great pride on having been an RMT in a regulated province and strongly desire to see Alberta become regulated to improve the standards of massage in the province.
