The Manupractic Institute is offering certification in Neuromuscular Therapy. Upon completion of each of the 8 courses/ modules, the student will received a certification certificate in that particular treatment area, example cervical protocol. Upon completion of all 8 modules, the student will receive a final certificate entitling them to use the title Certified Neuromuscular Therapist, endorsed through the Manupractic Institute. The Neuromuscular Therapy certification program is only open to Massage Therapists, due to the anatomy and therapeutic massage pre-requisites required beforehand by the student.
Neuromuscular Therapy, abbreviated as NMT, is a highly specialized method of treating orthopedic conditions, that has been around for 40 years. It is learned and practiced as "protocols" or routines, which are standardized procedures, each protocol dedicated to a specific body region, such as a cervical protocol, a pelvic protocol, an abdominal protocol, a shoulder and upper back protocol, etc. Certified Neuromuscular Therapists are health care professions, often Massage Therapists, Physiotherapists and Chiropractors who have undertaken the full Neuromuscular Therapy training from a school of Neuromuscular Therapy and who become certified through that school. Although you will find Certified Neuromuscular Therapists everywhere in Canada and the United States, they are particularly concentrated in British Columbia, Ontario, New York, California and Florida. In those areas, Certified Neuromuscular Therapists have developed a good rapport and respect with their local health care providers who find their methods provide good results in treatment of orthopedic conditions. Conditions treated with NMT include carpal tunnel syndrome, golfer's elbow, tennis elbow, thoracic outlet syndrome, temporo-mandibular joint syndrome, diaphragm issues, ilio-psoas issues, piriformis syndrome, pulled groin, plantar fasciitis, back pain, myofascial trigger points and sports/performance issues. There are many massage schools in North America that teach NMT to varying degrees, but a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist training will give a health care provider all the standardized procedures to effectively treat many orthopedic conditions consistently.
