Duration: 30 Hours    Times: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The primary focus of this course will be to teach students Thai massage acupressure points and stretches in the Supine, Side-Lying, Prone and Sitting positions. They will learn massage techniques that use their hands, knees, fee t, and elbows and efficient transitions between each of these techniques. By the end of this course, students will be able to perform a complete 120-minute Traditional Thai massage in supine, side-lying, prone and sitting positions.

The instructor, Grant Martens, is the owner and founder of Sirius Health and is recognized as a Registered Instructor and an Advanced Registered Thai Therapist by the Thai Healing Alliance International (THAI). Grant is also a Certified Instructor for the International Training Massage School (ITM) of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and is licensed by the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) as a Thai Massage Practitioner.

This course will begin with a half-hour of Wai Kru and Reusi Dat Ton each day. The first four days will then follow with a short lecture. Course content on day one will explain the various Thai massage designations and the alternate pathways to becoming an official Thai massage practitioner. On day two we examine the Thai element theory and learn how it informs Traditional Thai Medicine. On day three we will learn about client intake forms and SOAP notes. And on day four, we will study the influence of Buddhism and Jivaka Kamarbhaccha on Thai massage. There will be a short quiz for each section that the instructor will review the next day before the subsequent lecture.

On the afternoon of the fourth day, guest volunteers will come to the school act as clients for each student. Students will practice giving and reviewing intake forms with their clients. The instructor will then lead the students through the entire sequence, after which each student will practice a follow-up with their client.

The final day will have two periods of practical examination; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The week will end with a short closing program during which students will receive their certificates.
