Massage Therapy for Neurodivergent Populations: Clinical Strategies for ASD, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Differences

This two-day advanced training equips Registered Massage Therapists with the clinical insight and adaptable techniques needed to provide safe, effective, and affirming care for neurodivergent individuals —including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, sensory processing challenges, and other neurodevelopmental differences. Designed for RMTs looking to improve outcomes and increase comfort for this often underserved population, this course bridges current research with real-world application.

Participants will explore how neurodivergence affects the nervous system, with a focus on sensory integration, autonomic regulation, and how lived experiences—including masking, burnout, and trauma—can influence a person’s response to touch and care. You’ll learn how to adapt your approach to pressure, pacing, communication, and environmental setup to accommodate a wide range of sensory and cognitive needs while preserving the integrity of treatment goals.

Through case-based discussion, hands-on practice, and scenario work, therapists will develop more confidence in supporting neurodivergent clients in a way that feels safe, consent-based, and functional. We’ll also explore how to navigate shutdown, overwhelm, or dysregulation in session, and how to respectfully gather intake information when traditional communication methods aren’t effective.

This course is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming principles and emphasizes individualized care strategies, respectful collaboration, and a commitment to reducing harm. Whether you are already working with neurodivergent clients or are new to this area of practice, you’ll leave with practical tools, enhanced clinical judgment, and a more inclusive approach to care.
