Let’s Rewind: Best of NHPC in 2025

Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 01:44 PM

It's been another successful year with our members! We've made some significant strides to advocate for the holistic health industry and our practitioners.

We are committed to providing our community of over 7,000 educated and skilled practitioners with everything they need to succeed in their chosen holistic career paths.

In 2025, we took that a step further by creating more opportunities for our members to connect with industry leaders, local communities, and fellow practitioners.

Let's rewind the clock as we highlight some of the significant moments of our year together!

All the Fun We Had with Members This Year

Fun is better when shared, and we're all about making great memories with you! From formal meetings to casual conversations, our staff and board members worked hard to create many opportunities for everyone to feel included and engaged. Let's look back at the highlights!

Annual General Meeting in Calgary

We hosted our hybrid annual general meeting at the Sheraton Hotel in Calgary, where over 800 members, staff, and the Board of Directors (BOD) came together, virtually and in person, to celebrate another amazing year together.

Our CEO and the Board presented activities from 2024 and 2025, along with exciting initiatives to look forward to in 2026.

The NHPC booth was a hit! We gave out fun swag, including oil holsters, wooden hand massagers, posters for the practice room, stickers, nail clippers, and more.

Fun Fact: Our AGM came to an unexpected halt when a fire alarm sent us all outside in the middle of lunch! Thankfully, firefighters quickly confirmed there were no signs of fire or smoke, and we were cleared to continue.

We Went Online for the NHPC Conference

We hosted 12 virtual workshops for our 2025 Conference, covering a wide range of topics, from hands-on techniques to marketing strategies. We were thrilled to have over 225 attendees join us throughout our two-day conference.

A live, virtual lunch on our Facebook channel was introduced, hosted by our very own Education and Events Manager. It was a great opportunity for members to connect in real time as we announced our draw prize winners.

Connections Cafe (across Canada)

September marked our Connections Cafe season. We visited eight cities across Canada (from east to west) and hosted two virtual meetings.

We understand that, as practitioners, working alone in treatments rooms can sometimes feel isolating. That's why we reimagined Connections Cafe to put a stronger emphasis on making meaningful connections. We want to support members in building a network of referrals and friendships.

For the first time, we partnered with local food banks to help members donate the most-needed items. From all of us at the NHPC, we extend a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone who contributed to the donation drive.

Continuing Education

Providing continuing education to our members is important to us. Growth and learning can happen anywhere! This year, we hosted 10 webinars and 29 partnered workshops, reaching over 1,700 participants in total.

We continue to fill our digital library with recorded webinars, on-demand courses, and research resources to provide members with flexible options to get Continued Competency Program credits and expand their knowledge and skills.

Achievements We Made to Support Members

We made changes to help our members financially with emergency, essential, and enjoyable expenses.

Mutual Aid Grant Fund Increased

In June 2024, we launched the Mutual Aid Grant Fund, a project dedicated to supporting members experiencing unexpected practice-related hardships.

The fund was quickly utilized, reflecting a strong need within our NHPC community to manage emergency expenses, such as legal proceedings or replacing equipment lost to natural disasters, theft, or damage.

In 2025, we doubled the fund, allowing us to extend help to even more members in need.

Medical Malpractice Reduced

In over seven years, our membership and insurance prices have stayed the same. In a year when costs are going up for most people, we chose to go the other way by lowering our fees.

As of November 1, we reduced our Medical Malpractice Insurance by five dollars. This adjustment is one of the ways we're keeping essential coverage accessible and affordable for our members.

That's five dollars back in your pocket for morning coffee!

Added New Discount Providers

We connect NHPC members with products and services that meet their personal and professional needs through our Discount Provider Program.

This program offers members exclusive discounts in categories like personal insurance coverage, treatment supplies and equipment, business management, and wellness and lifestyle.

This year, we promoted three VIP events with discounts ranging from 25% to 70%, carefully timed to help members save on major occasions like back-to-school, Black Friday, and Boxing Day.

In addition, we added five new providers to support members, including booking software, a virtual assistant, car rentals and travel, and vision care.

We are committed to helping members make the most of their dollar. We negotiate with vendors across Canada so they don't have to!

Our Work in the Community

The strength of our NHPC community continues to grow each year, and that has inspired us to expand our efforts to local communities. In 2025, we rolled up our sleeves to take a hands-on approach to community engagement.

Tree Planting

In July 2024, we piloted a tree planting program in Edmonton in partnership with the City of Edmonton's Root for Trees program. Being an advocate for holistic health means caring for individuals in our communities and clinics as well as the environment we share.

In 2025, we expanded this initiative to other cities, partnering with local municipalities to plant trees together. NHPC members, staff, friends, families, and city workers all came together to plant trees in neighbourhoods, parks, and ponds across Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton. In total, we've planted over 900 trees and shrubs.

We are so grateful to everyone who volunteered their time, effort, and enthusiasm — this wouldn't have been possible without them!

For members who missed this opportunity in 2025, don't worry: this is just the beginning. We're continuing to grow and expand.

Tradeshows

Attending tradeshows is a great way for us to connect with members, students, industry leaders, and the general public to share more about the NHPC and raise awareness of the different modalities. This year, we attended six tradeshows across Canada. Here are some of the highlights!

Universal Thai Wellness Association (UTWA) Championship

2025 Universal Thai Wellness Association (UTWA) Championship at West Edmonton Mall

We were proud to attend the 2025 UTWA Championship held at West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, where we had the opportunity to promote Thai massage as a holistic health treatment.

Not only did we educate the public about the benefits of Thai massage and where to find qualified practitioners, but we also had the honour of supporting two of our very own NHPC members: Jel Rasri and Paul Buffel.

Jel Rasri, a long-time NHPC member, owner of Soul2Sole Massage Wellness and Clinic, and president of the Universal Thai Wellness Association, led her team in producing a wonderful showcase of Thai massage and its rich cultural roots.

Paul Buffel, a Thai massage therapist and former NHPC president, participated in the event as one of the championship judges.

Chartered Professionals in Human Resources

We attended the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) conference, providing HR professionals the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and access resources on different holistic health practices. This included information about the services offered by NHPC members.

Many of the attendees were seeking guidance on organizing wellness events for employees, finding qualified practitioners, and enhancing employee support through benefit coverage.

We will continue this outreach by participating in future CPHR events and tradeshows in 2026 as part of our advocacy efforts in the industry.

School Presentations

At NHPC, we believe in building safe, skilled, and confident practitioners. Our support extends beyond our members to include students as well. We set them up for success by providing them with the resources and guidance they need to enter the profession fully equipped.

During the year, we presented at 25 schools and connected with a total of 790 enthusiastic students across Canada. Our seminars covered topics such as boundary setting, direct billing, starting a business, sales and marketing, and more.

Cheers to 2025, Hello 2026!

It's no secret that 2025 was a remarkable year for us, but none of it would have been possible without our members' support and dedication. Our staff and Board of Directors sincerely thank them for all the work they do in clinics and communities.

With happy hearts, we bid 2025 a fond farewell and look forward to the opportunities and initiatives that 2026 will bring.

Happy Holidays!
